the Coming bat girl film should be a big deal when it hits HBO Max in the near future. Not just in the sense that this is Barbara Gordon’s first film outing since batman and robin since 1997, but also for bring back Michael Keaton as Caped Crusader. Of course, we’ve known for a while that he’d be back for the role thanks to news surrounding the oft-delayed Glow filmbut there’s still something to be said for seeing him return as an older Bruce Wayne and potentially take a protege under his wing.

By talking to Variety about the film, star Leslie Grace was asked how it felt to see Keaton back in action, which she described as “wild for everyone”. She was, of course, very vague about what to expect from Keaton in the film, but she called working with him “the thing of her dreams, I couldn’t even believe I was sharing space with Batman.” . It was also equally surreal for her to work with Brendan Fraser, who plays the movie villain Firefly. “I’m not supposed to like him, but he’s a huge teddy bear,” Grace continued. Praising his previous action movie experience thanks to The Mummy franchise, she teased the in-store fight scenes: “There is a crazy fire. Crazy stunts, crazy drops. She is [Batgirl] a biker, so you’re going to see her do a lot of badassery.

bat girl is Grace’s second role after last year’s In the Heights, and the feeling of playing a superhero only hit her once she finally put on the costume for the first time. “That was the first real moment where I was like, ‘Oh, wow, here we are. I do that. Like, I’m really Batgirl. “Being a superhero, she admitted, was pretty overwhelming, so much so that she didn’t think to ask former Batgirl Alicia Silverstone or Gal Gadot to share their experiences. However, she did not enter completely blind: she extended her hand to Sasha Callethe Supergirl of Glow movie, and The blue beetle Xolo Mariduena. “I hope we can meet soon, because we are part of the new generation.”

In Grace’s words, there is “so much” going on in the bat girl film. ““There is this love affair, there is this father-daughter relationship. It’s about looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white. With the popularity of Batman media, she was naturally asked about possibly seeing her Babs again in the future. Even though DC films are frequent (if not constant) stream, she admitted that there are currently discussions about a second bat girl film. But obviously, nothing concrete for the moment. “We already talked about where are we going to take this from here,” she said. “But WWe need to see this one first. There are certainly discussions about what it could be.

bat girl will come out on HBO Max later this year.
