FIFA 23 on PC is a big deal this year due to the number of improvements and new features that have been introduced. Unlike last year, PC gamers can now enjoy current-gen features like HyperMotion2, which adds to the overall immersion of the game.
Considering the importance of dribbling and trickery in FIFA 23, it is advisable to play the game with a controller whenever possible. While playing with a keyboard has some advantages, controllers offer better benefits, especially crossplay now being an active feature.
Unfortunately for PC gamers, several bugs have hampered their experience in FIFA 23. Many have reported a bug that prevents the controller from working. It’s unclear what’s causing this, but it seems to be happening to those who have the title on Origin. Those launching the game through the Steam/Epic Games Store have also encountered this issue.
Luckily, there is a workaround that can help players fix the bug.
Steps to potentially fix FIFA 23 PC bug that prevents controllers from working
PC gamers expected a lot from FIFA 23, given the introduction of features like HyperMotion2. Unfortunately, there were many instances where the game didn’t work as expected.
EA’s anti-cheat failed to fully load the game. Issues with controllers were another issue, forcing players to use keyboards instead.
Luckily, there is a potential fix to get controllers working again. This requires players to change some settings.
Follow the steps below to possibly fix the bug in FIFA 23 on PC and get your controller working again:
Step 1: Add Origin to Steam. To do this, go to the library where the games are presented.
2nd step: Select “Add Game” in the lower left corner and select the Origin.exe file.
Step 3: The .exe file is located in the EA folder in Program Files. By default, program files are located in the C drive of a system.
Step 4: Switch to big picture mode on Steam and choose settings. It’s at the top of the screen.
Step 5: Choose Controller Settings from the options and select the applicable one depending on the device.
Step 6: Keep configuration and extended support enabled (extended support applies to Xbox controllers).
Step 7: Return to the Library and select Origin. From there, go to Controller Options.
Step 8: Select “Forced On” from the available options for the per-game Steam Input setting.
Step 9: Launch Origin and your controller should work fine.
It should be noted that Origin must remain closed while following these steps. A system restart before launching FIFA 23 is also advised. Additionally, players must run all executable files, including the game one, in administrator mode.
This fix worked for several players. However, there is no guarantee that it will work for everyone.
The bug manifested in different ways in individual systems. A permanent solution will ultimately have to come from EA Sports.
