Facebook Hate Speech AI drops nearly 50%, closes reports of ineffectiveness

Facebook posted an article on its AI disputes for hate speech, which has been found to be ineffective in filtering out hate speech and violence shared through social media. The company said its AI has helped remove up to 50% of posts containing this negative content online.

The large blue social media company located in Menlo Park recently updated its policies, and there are plans to remove those that target and harass public features on its platform. The company has long been entangled in reports and its whistleblower case regarding the platform not caring about content for the mental health of its teenage users.

Facebook’s AI is effective at filtering and removing harmful content from its news feed, including hate speech and violent speech, as shared a blog post from its vice president of integrity, Guy Rosen. Facebook and Rosen argued that the company is doing everything in its power to make the platform a safe place to use.

Facebook engineers have been said to have leaked confidential information and shared speculation about the company’s focus on cleaning up their platform for a safer environment. The Wall Street Journal report sparked conversations about it, especially Facebook’s shortcomings.

However, Rosen’s blog post argues that Facebook, especially its AI, has already deleted the said posts and has effectively deleted this negative content online. In addition, it has done a lot for the company, where said content has been reduced by almost 50% and continues to work for the platform.

Facebook’s technology on user experience

User experiences are one of the most important factors on the internet right now, as they focus on using the platform in different locations, preferences, age groups, etc. It also means that the more users they have, the more profit they generate and give back to people with their functions.

Part of Facebook’s user experience is its AI which filters posts and platform content to make social media a healthier place to stay and enjoy. Plus, it helps reduce the “negative vibes” of the platform, especially since it helps eliminate unnecessary antics that people resort to online.

Facebook: a safe place on the Internet?

Facebook strives to be a safe place on the internet, especially since it is a platform that has massive reach across all of its apps, including Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus.

These social media have helped shape modern technology and digital content, being the platforms people use to gather information and express themselves. The social media company said its top priority was always the experience of people online, and she said she sent her AI to help on that aspect.
