Backstage Revenge with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

NOW: The original soundtrack and music from Revenge are amazing and make the movie feel like a throwback to the classic 90s teen movies that everyone loves. How did you choose the music for the film?

So Este [Haim] and Amanda [Yamate] scored the movie, and working with them was awesome. We needed something that felt like it could live in all the needle drops, of which there are many. This baseline, this awesome Drea and Eleanor themed baseline, it’s so good. Have an Este Haim baseline in your film as a score? Like, iconic.

On the soundtrack, I worked with Rob Lowry, who is our music supervisor, and it was amazing. I remember growing up loving Barnes & Noble or Best Buy and buying the CDs of iconic teen movie soundtracks, and I wanted that feeling. I wanted to feel like I was ripping the plastic off a CD and devouring every song. I wanted Revenge feel like that.

Having Muna and Billie Eilish on a movie soundtrack is pretty remarkable. You succeeded.

Thanks! I was really crazy about the songs. I was like, every song has to be perfect and every song has to be more perfect than the last song. I really wanted every moment of the movie to be like, “Oh my god! That?! Oh my god! THAT?! No, that’s my favorite! No, that’s my favorite!” If that’s how people feel, then I’ve done my job.
